WelcomeAfter having developed his technical skills in various mediums (mostly pastels, acrylics, and oils) through paintings and drawings that simply portray the beauty of nature and light, Shane McDonald enjoys manipulating pigment on traditional surfaces while concentrating on producing aesthetically pleasing balance in design. He strives to use a variety of layers and paint thicknesses to help energize his paintings—sometimes leaving the underpainting and preparatory passages visible in small areas. He wants the viewer to see the paint application and imagine the creation process as a reader of a hand-written letter may imagine the writer’s circumstances.
Shane has been building ideas from personal experiences for new figurative paintings. His smaller oil paintings are studies of favorite subjects with the affects of light and atmosphere. Larger studio pieces additionally involve personal instances of self-imposed isolation or loss of connection with the outside world. Other works may allegorically describe his sometimes satirical views of the world from the viewpoint of a separated entity. |
